FIGHTING BOB FEST, SEPTEMBER 18, 2004

INTRODUCTION OF ROBERT F. KENNEDY, JR.

BY GLENN STODDARD

Thank you Ed Garvey.  And thank you for starting this great idea called Fighting Bob Fest!  What a wonderful event!

As a Progressive Democrat and environmental advocate, I am honored to introduce our next speaker, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Mr. Kennedy is here on behalf of the Kerry/Edwards campaign, and he is going to speak about how our environment is at risk because of the Bush Administration.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is an environmental lawyer who has relentlessly—and successfully—prosecuted government agencies and corporations for polluting our nation’s air, land, and water.

He currently serves as President of the Waterkeeper Alliance and as Senior Attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council.

He is also Clinical Professor at the Environmental Litigation Clinic at Pace University School of Law School in New York.

Mr. Kennedy is an outspoken critic of the Bush Administration’s anti-environmental policies and its abuse of scientific research for political purposes.

In 1999, he was recognized as one of TIME Magazine’s “Heroes for the Planet.

In 2001, he engaged in civil disobedience and sat in a Puerto Rican prison for 30 days on trespassing charges for protesting the U.S. Navy’s awful bombing exercises at Vieques.  You have to respect that, ladies and gentlemen!

Mr. Kennedy is a graduate of Harvard University and has studied at the London School of Economics.  But we won’t hold that against him.

He earned his law degree from the University of Virginia School of law, and he holds a Master’s Degree in environmental law from Pace University School of Law.

He has, of course, worked on numerous political campaigns, including his uncle’s 1980 Presidential campaign and Al Gore’s winning campaign for President in 2000.

Mr. Kennedy has published several books and numerous articles.

His most recent book was just published by Harper Collins and is entitled:  Crimes Against Nature: How George W. Bush and His Corporate Pals Are Plundering the Country and Hijacking Our Democracy

After you hear him speak today, I urge you to buy this book, read it quickly, and then buy extra copies for all your friends and relatives before November 2nd

When you read this book, I think you will agree with me that the most dangerous “Axis of Evil” in the world today is the “Axis of Evil” between George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and their corporate pals in the energy and utility industries who are destroying our environment and destroying our democracy!

This book makes it very clear that George W. Bush and Dick Cheney are WRONG for the environment and WRONG for America.

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.!
